A coin for a thought

                                  A coin for a thought

Image result for coins

On 13th of December 2018 was the last day of this semester for GNCT lecture our lecturer gave us a different  very important activity. First of all our lecturer collected a coin from each one of us and the coins were put into a purse. Then our lecturer explained the activity.

Then the purse was rotated through the class and the moment where our lecturer tapped the table, the person with the purse had to takeout a coin and he had to say the year that was printed on the coin. Thereafter the person with the coin had to tell his or her memories that related to that year. This was very entertaining.

The session was going awesome. My fellow mates brought out their remarkable memories when they got the chance to present their memories. Those were very funny and some are very interesting.

Unfortunately I haven't got the chance in this time. But I enjoyed this session by listening to my friends' stories.

So the last session for first year was ended by this activity and all those sessions gave us valuable lessons and good precious memories. So all these sessions were awesome.

Stand on the paper

Stand on the Paper

This time for the PPD session we had an interesting work using a paper which was given us by our madam Ms.Sarasi.

First we were divided into four groups. In every group there were seven or eight members. Our group had eight members. And then each group was given a piece of paper by our madam. Our task is to stand all the group members on that paper until our madam asks us to stop. The rules are we cannot keep feet outside the paper and paper should not be torn. If the paper is torn the team will be out from the game.

First we were given time to discuss the strategy. And then the game started. All the teams tried to complete the task. We also tried but we had to exit from the game since our paper was torn. After standing about five minutes on the paper madam asked us to stop. Then she gave another commad to fold the paper and again stand on it. And again after about five minutes our madam told to fold the paper again. And finally one team as able to survive in this game and it was the winning game of the day.

From this activity we learned to accomplish a given task with the help of team members.

Lava River

Lava River

This week for the PPD session we had an interesting activity which was given us by our madam Ms.Sarasi. By name it is called Lava River.

For this activity we were divided into groups by our madam. There were 20 students and then we had 4 groups. In each group there were 5 members. Our team members are Chamith, Hasitha, Pankajan, Faheem and Sandali(me).

Our madam had brought the resources for the activity. They are cardboard plates which were cut in the shape of circles. She called them as stones.

First our madam gave instructions to telling us how we should do this activity. Lava River is a game. In this game we have to cross a lava river using those stones. Each group was given 4 stones. We have to go from one bank to the other bank of the river using those stones. All 4 stones should have the human touch through out the process. If it lose human touch we will lose the stone and we have to cross the river with the remaining stones. And if someone step on the lava, that group have to start from the beginning. And only 3 times we can step on lava.

First we were given 10 minutes to discuss about a strategy on how we should cross the lava river.

After that 10 minutes we started to cross the river and our madam started to count the time which we take to cross the river. At the beginning itself we lost 2 stones but we tried to cross the river using remaining 2 stones. And then we stepped on lava and started from the beginning. Anyhow we managed to cross more than half of the river and unfortunately again we had to step on lava. And again we started from the beginning. In the third attempt we managed to go to the other bank of the river.

From this activity we learned to accomplish a given task with the limited resources and with the help of team members. And finally it was a very interesting activity to remember

Culture

                                      Our Culture

On 6th of December was a very special day. The reason for that is during that day in GNCT lecture we had a different experience that we never faced. First of all we were divided into two groups and lecture explained the scenario. The title that was given to this scenario was culture. The scenario was each team had to create their own culture which includes customs, language, songs, dance etc. Also that should be unique to each team.

Our group planned an activity with a different kind of scenario. That occasion was an event with some entertaining events which were happened according to our own traditions and customs. We were given about twenty minutes to prepare for the event. After some preparations we came up with the event and it gone totally wrong due to our own mistakes. But other team performed their act in more organized way comparing to our act. It got good feedback from us and also from the lecturer.

Then our lecturer explained things that went wrong for both teams.

This awesome activity helped us to identify different aspects of a culture. And also how to deal with other cultures and how to respect other cultures. Those are the key points that we got from this activity and this activity was very entertaining.

Most Inspired Leader

On 29th of November 2018 we had an interesting session in GNCT lecture on Leadership. Initially our lecturer explained some key points of leadership using a presentation. From that we got an idea of what was that day's scenario.

In that presentation there were some awesome life stories of great true leaders who lives and who had lived in the world. This small scenario made the session more interesting and more valuable.

After this we were divided into two groups and our lecturer told us to perform an act in front of the class regarding leadership. Two instances of leadership were given to two groups and we got about fifteen minutes to ready for the act. After the preparation both teams acted for the given scenarios.
Our group had to act a scene of how to handle the situation in a meeting of presenting a presentation when one of the important slides is missing. In this act we were not quite successful. But other team performed their act superbly.

Finally we discussed how our act gone wrong. Our lecturer explained how things should be going and it really helped to us.

After the activity was finished our lecturer told us to write a blog about our most inspired leader.

Entrepreneur Bill Gates founded the world's largest software business, Microsoft, with Paul Allen, and subsequently became one of the richest men in the world.
Who Is Bill Gates?
Entrepreneur and businessman Bill Gates (born October 28, 1955) and his partner Paul Allenfounded and built the world's largest software business, Microsoft, through technological innovation, keen business strategy and aggressive business tactics. In the process, Gates became one of the richest men in the world. In February 2014, Gates announced that he was stepping down as Microsoft's chairman to focus on charitable work at his foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Net Worth and House
In March 1986, Bill Gates took Microsoft public with an initial public offering (IPO) of $21 per share, making him an instant millionaire at age 31. Gates held 45 percent of the company's 24.7 million shares, making his stake at that time $234 million of Microsoft's $520 million.
Over time, the company's stock increased in value and split numerous times. In 1987, Bill Gates became a billionaire when the stock hit $90.75 a share. Since then, Gates has been at the top, or at least near the top, of Forbes' annual list of the top 400 wealthiest people in America. In 1999, with stock prices at an all-time high and the stock splitting eight-fold since its IPO, Gates' wealth briefly topped $101 billion.
In 1997, Gates and his family moved into a 55,000-square-foot, $54-million house on the shore of Lake Washington. Though the house serves as a business center, it is said to be very cozy for the couple and their three children.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
In 1994, Bill and Melinda Gates established the William H. Gates Foundation, which was dedicated to supporting education, world health and investment in low-income communities. With Melinda's influence, Bill had taken an interest in becoming a civic leader in the footsteps of his mother, studying the philanthropic work of American industrial titans Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller. He realized that he had an obligation to give more of his wealth to charity. In 2000, the couple combined several family foundations and made a $28 billion contribution to form the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
In 2000, Bill Gates stepped down from the day-to-day operations of Microsoft, turning over the job of CEO to college friend Steve Ballmer, who had been with Microsoft since 1980. He positioned himself as chief software architect so he could concentrate on what was for him the more passionate side of the business, though he remained chairman of the board.
Over the next few years, Bill’s involvement with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation occupied much of his time and even more of his interest. In 2006, Gates announced he was transitioning himself from full-time work at Microsoft to devote more quality time to the foundation. His last full day at Microsoft was June 27, 2008. In February 2014, Gates stepped down as chairman of Microsoft in order to move into a new position as technology adviser; longtime Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was replaced by 46-year-old Satya Nadella.
Gates continues to devote much of his time and energy to the work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The organization tackles international and domestic issues, such as health and education and helping students in the United States become college-ready. In 2015, Gates spoke out in favor of national Common Core standards in grades K through 12 and charter schools. Gates also proved to be a groundbreaking employer when, around this time, the foundation announced that it would give its employees a year's paid leave after the birth or the adoption of a child.
In 2017, the foundation launched the first of what was to become its annual "Goalkeepers" report, an examination of progress made in several important areas related to public health, including child mortality, malnutrition and HIV. At the time, Gates identified infectious and chronic disease as the two biggest public health concerns that needed to be addressed over the coming decade.
In April 2018, Gates announced that he was teaming with Google co-founder Larry Page to provide $12 million in funding for a universal flu vaccine. He said the funds would be awarded in grants of up to $2 million for individual efforts that are "bold and innovative," with an aim of beginning clinical trials by 2021. Although some questioned whether $12 million would be enough to spark any real medical breakthrough, others praised the intentions behind the investment, while Gates indicated that there could be more to come.

Personal Goals

On 15th of November 2018 GNCT lecture we had to display our personal goals on a bristol board and had to present that in front of the class. We all prepared that previously as our lecturer informed about this activity in last week session.

Following are main points of my personal goals.
  • My first goal is to be graduated with a first class in Software Engineering degree in 2022. Also before graduation we have internship period in 2021. If I will get internship at WSO2 company it will be a great moment in my life.
  • After graduation my main goal will be securing a job opportunity in 2023 at recognized IT related company. If that company is WSO2 it will be great. At the age of 28 or 29 I will get married. By 2031 I will build my own house and I will buy my own car as soon as possible. Because it is my one of main goals. As the progress goes on I will have two or three children.
  • Also I have an idea of building my own company which will be related with IT field. That is my main goal besides above mentioned goals in my life.
  • Also I will visit overseas for some considerable time period.
  • I intend to retire from all my career activities at the age of 60 and may be before that. After that I will spend my remaining life with my family and grand children.

Those are the key points of my personal goals. There may be many other goals in addition to above mentioned goals.

From this activity we all were able to identify our goals and how to adapt to those goals in order to achieve those goals. This session was very fantastic and it really helped to identify our inner thoughts well.

The Barter Puzzle

Barter Puzzle

This time for the PPD session we had an interesting work. It is Barter Puzzle by name.

For this work we were divided into groups by our madam Ms.Sarasi. There were 4 groups and our group was group 2. Madam called two people from each group and gave them a board to cut into 95 pieces. One person cut it and other one count the pieces and put them in to an envelop. This process was done by all 4 groups.
After cutting the board in to 95 pieces madam took 10 pieces from each group and mixed those pieces with other groups pieces. Our group also had 10 pieces from another group. Then our madam gave us our envelops which included 85 pieces from the board we cut and 10 pieces from another group. And our task is to complete the picture in the board as it was before cutting into pieces.

For that, first we had to get our 10 pieces which were mixed with other groups' pieces. To continue the work we looked at the pieces which were given to us. We recognized the pieces that does not belong to our group. We gathered all those pieces and kept them aside. One of us went to the other groups to find our missing pieces while others kept on working with our puzzle's pieces.

Everyone got together and tried to remake the picture with the pieces. And we could find some of the 10 pieces which were mixed with another group's pieces. But remaking the puzzle was bit difficult because the pieces are too small and there were about 95 pieces. So could not finish the work on the first day itself. So our madam told us to number the pieces that we managed to gather correctly. We numbered the pieces and put them into the envelop and gave to our madam.

On the second day our first task is to regather the pieces that we gathered on the first day. It took about 45 minutes to gather those pieces. and then the hard part came. We had to gather other pieces too. We worked on our task on the rest of our time but unfortunately we couldn't remake the picture gathering all the pieces with the given time.

By participating in this activity we learned to
  • Communicate properly
  • Negotiate with others
  • Work with a team
  • Respect others' ideas
  • Accomplish a given task in a limited time

Egg Cover

                                                                  Egg Cover

On September 20 2018 in GNCT lecture we did a small activity which is called EGG COVER. We all were divided into 5 groups and each group had 8 members. All groups were given one egg and 4 A4 papers.

As the name suggested what was to do in this activity it was to cover the egg beautifully. Also egg was to be protected by that egg cover. After we created that egg cover we had to drop egg with egg cover from a high place about 20 feats. If egg was damaged during that process that team was lost.

After those instructions we got 30 minutes to create our egg cover.

Following are some moments in that procedure.

After our time was finished we went outside and did our dropping.

We got to learn many things during this activity.
Some of them are,
  •  Creating a thing according to the situation with limited resources.
  • How to do work with a team.
  • Managing time according to the situation.
  • Creativity.
And Finally we had a great fun with this activity.

API

In computer programming, an application programming interface (API) is a set of subroutine definitions, protocols , and tools for building software. In general terms , it is a set of clearly defined methods of communication between various components. A good API makes it easier to develop a computer program by providing all the building blocks, which are then put together by the programmer. An API may be for a web based system, operating system, database system, computer hardware, or software library.

Analytics & AI

AI is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning, reasoning and self-correction. Particular applications of AI include expert systems, speech recognition and machine vision.

IOT

The internet of things, or IOT is a system of interrelated and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers(UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human to human to computer interaction.

Bots

A bot is an automated program that runs over the internet. Some bots run automatically, while others only execute commands when they receive specific input. There are many different types of bots, but some common examples include web crawlers, chat toom bots, and malicious bots.

Block Chain

A blockchain is a digital record of transactions. The name comes from its structure, in which individual records, called blocks, are linked together in single list, called a chain. Blockchains are used for recording transactions made with cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, and have  many other applications.

Quantum computing

Quantum computing is the area of study focused on developing computer technoogy based on the principles of quantum theory, which explains the nature and behavior of energy and matter on the quantum level.

My friend

My Friend

Lots of stuff in life is important to me. One really important thing on my life is my family. The most important thing to me is my mom.
My mother's name is J.A. Roja. She is a house wife. I love my mom for so many reasons. She is my best friend and she does everything possible to keep me happy. She takes care of me all time. When I need help with something and there is no one to help me, I know that I will go home and my mom will be there ready to help me. She is always so nice and always makes me smile when I hang in the ave a bad day. She always  buys me clothes and makes sure I have something cute to wear. If she didn't care about me life would be so much different, so much sadder.
My  mom is my best friend. We always go shopping together. My mom is really pretty and looks really young. I love hanging out with her and going places with her. Another reason
I absolutely adore my mom is because she always makes me smile and always keeps me happy. I love to eat cakes which my mom makes. Not only me , all likes to eat my mom's cakes and sweets.
My mom's Biscuit

Its very taste and yummy. My mom is warm and bright like sunshine. There is so many reasons I love her. I can write a whole book about good things she has done for me. She is so sweet and so
My mom's Cake
caring; she deserves everything in the world. I'm not only going to respect her on Mother's Day. Your mom is someone you have to love and honor every single day of your life. she deserves it. My mom is my hero.

Then we had to make a paper tower with 5 A4 sheets.
The condition of this game is the paper tower should be tall and strong.
This is our group 2 photo with our paper tower.
Unfortunately we  lost , because our paper tower's base is not strong enough and ot is not flat.
This is the group 1 members who had won

This is the group 2 members with their paper tower

My Opinion on this challenge: This game let us know how to work with team members with unity, and all are coming with various ideas therefore we could share our ideas with our members. And I really enjoyed and we had a great time.
